Project Introduction

(2)Results of analysis of wood

1) Analysis of the sample air:
Same as the air outside the pit
2) Generic character analysis of sample wood:
Indentified as one of the genus Cedrus
3) Radiocarbon dating of sample wood:
Consistently older than the reign of Khufu
Reign of King Khufu: B.C.2551-2528
14C date of sample wood: B.C.2650-2620
4) Analysis of the condition of sample wood:
X-ray diffraction analysis suggested that major components of the wood had been severely damaged.

It led to the conclusion that we must carry out conservation work without delay.
